This month is going to be a cracker too! So why not join us on the Mountain on November 19th at 7pm for another fabulous night of music, entertainment, good vibes and fantastic food overlooking beautiful Brisbane Water. As well as our fantastic performers, we will be presenting another tasty selection of meals served by our hardworking kitchen volunteers. Bring a friend, a smile, a blanket or a chair to sit on and a torch to light your way and treat yourself to a wonderful night out under the stars.
Among those appearing this month are:
SARAH HUMPHREYS: Central Coast songstress Sarah Humphreys had a busy year last year. She signed with Mushroom Music Publishing, Recorded and released her third independent CD, an EP entitled 'Autumn' which was co-produced by the ARIA award winning artist Shane Nicholson. She then won the ABC Music Artist Of The Year 2009 in the ABC Newcastle Music Awards and after all this she welcomed her son into the world and became a Mother for the first time. This change in life has given a new depth and meaning to the singer who has been described by The Drum Media as 'Earthy Grounded & Honest.' Her breakthrough album 'Teapot Trees & Love Birds' produced by Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios in Sydney garnered her much respect in the industry, with a gorgeous blend of folk, pop and 60's inspired songs to smile, cry and sing along to. She now returns to the stage after a year spent at home with her family, with new songs and stories of her journeys through many a season.

SAM BUCKINGHAM: Raised on the radio-dueling arguments of her polar opposite parents it’s no surprise Sam Buckingham’s influences and style are varied and broad, subtle and strong, bitter and sweet.
With a father campaigning the benefits of The Beatles, Yes and The Who and who insisted on calling his first born Lindsay (named after Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac) and a mother hell bent on educating her children on the beauty and importance of Classical, Spanish and Operatic musical exploration, Buckingham was bred into the ethos of music being an art form of many faces and a way in which to create a rich and meaningful soundtrack to your day to day life.
So, when given a hand me down guitar for her fourteenth Christmas, Buckingham dove straight in to learning her favourite songs by the artists relevent to a budding adolescent artist of her time… The Cranberries, Aretha Franklin and Jewel to name a few.
It wasn’t long however until Buckingham cottoned on to the benefits of using music for her own expression, telling her own stories and putting music to the poetry she’d been writing for the past few years. Within a few weeks of pursuing her newest passion, Buckingham was performing for friends and family in the living room, kitchen, backyard and bedroom, too shy to face her audience and too afraid to deliver her new creations in more than an earthy whisper.
Shying from the spotlight for a good few years, it wasn’t until a friend drove Buckingham to her first open mic night at her local suburban pub – and pushed her onto the stage – that she got her first taste of what it could mean to be a performer outside of the four walls of home.
Open mics, festival trips and more backyard singing ensued and it wasn’t until 2005 when Buckingham met Australian musical legend Garth Porter that she even entertained the idea of pursuing a musical career.
Instantly drawn to the 20 year olds heartfelt lyrics and innocent, syrupy vocals, Porter offered to produce Buckingham’s debut album and what became Daydreamer. Recorded on the finest selection of vintage analogue sound gear at Porters Rancom St Studios with the cream of Australian musicians as her studio band, Daydreamer became a rich warm, debut offering filled with anthems of love, questions, fears and hope. Picked up by ABC Radio National as Album on the week, Triple J invited Buckingham to co-host on the acclaimed Home & Hosed (then with Ash Grunwald) and featured a number of tracks lifted from the album on their national playlist. Buckingham was then placed on bills alongside well regarded artists Angus & Julia Stone, iOTA and Tyrone Noonan, touring nationally, selling out Sydney’s The Basement and winning finalist status for multiple Daydreamer songs in the Australian Music Oz Awards and the International Songwriting Competition.
In 2007, two years older, perhaps two years wiser, Buckingham decided to create a follow up to Daydreamer, an answer to all the questions she’d previously asked and a change of direction in the way she approached the writing, recording and music making progress.
Having cut her teeth for the past two years touring and performing alongside Sydney’s best in the underground music scene, Buckingham chose to create her second independent release in a friends bedroom home studio with the help of close friends and musical contemporaries. What began as a handful of songs written on her cheap acoustic guitar between juggling jobs and living life became My Own Horse, five sugary sweet pop/folk gems, bursting with catchy hooks, inviting vocals and an a new assured promise that Buckingham had well and truly arrived and was hell bent on travelling her own personal musical journey… wherever that might lead
The Release of My Own Horse saw Buckingham embark on another, this time larger national tour with musical counterpart Sarah Humphreys; billing at Tamworths Country Music Festival alongside artists as diverse as Shannon Noll, Paul Greene and Kasey Chambers; a prime spot at the acclaimed Blue Mountains Folk Festival where she had the privelage of meeting international troubadours Ron Sexsmith and Kate Miller-Heidke and yet again winning finalist status in The Music Oz Awards and the International Songwriting competitions.
Having signed an Australia based management contract in 2009 with Melbourne’s Local & Or General (Birds of Tokyo, Trial Kennedy, Kisschasy) Buckingham was torn between pursuing overseas opportunities and staying at home in Oz to release a third record. With eager fans pre ordering the yet to be released offering, and with another handful of folk/pop candies up her sleeve Buckingham high-tailed to Sydney’s Love Hz Studios keen to explore her creative abilities and break the female singer/songwriter mould, entering the studio with four home recorded demos, ready to be self produced , nurtured and made into what would become her best release to date. Gravity fuses each corner of Buckingham’s musical influence, once again delivering catchy hooks and singalongs, heartfelt tales of life and love and her beguiling signature singing style, aptly described as enchanting, devine, powerful and sweet.
Since the release of Gravity, Buckingham has embarked on another two national tours, has been invited to play alongside Australian icons Ian Moss, Beccy Cole and Lior and has once again won finalist status in The Music Oz Awards and International Songwriting Competition. That’s three times. No joke.
Nine months after Gravity’s release, her first film clip for the EP’s title track finally entered the online and television arena. A claymation art piece, lovingly created by Melbourne’s Darcy Prendergast of Dee Pee Studios it immediately received international acclaim, partly for the beauty of the clip, and of course for the beauty of the song. A story of two lovers who happen to meet and try their best to stay away from eachother with obstacles of life and love getting in the way. But, in the end, love prevails and of course they end up together – as does happen in all the good fairy tales.
